Product CN-8300 - 10Base-FP 32-Bit EISA NIC with ST/SMA Connectors |
Overview
The CodeNet-8300/8302 are 32 bit 10BASE-FL Ethernet network adapters for the Extended Industry Standard Architecture
(EISA) bus. The board is a state-of-the-art bus master design
that uses the host system main memory directly. When receiving or transmitting packet data or during buffer management,
the CodeNet-8300/8302 requests the EISA bus from the host
system. Linked-list buffer management maximizes flexible
memory management and provides efficient data packet processing in system memory by eliminating the need for intermediate copying of packets. The direct placement of data into
system memory increases throughput while reducing CPU bus
bandwidth utilization. In tact, the high-speed interruptible DMA
design of the CodeNet-8300/8302 typically consumes less
than 5% ot the CPU bus bandwidth. EISA users can take full
advantage of the inherent speed and power of i386, i486 and
Pentium EISA computers in a fiber optic Ethernet network. For
total software compatibility the CodeNet-8300/8302 supports
both EISA (slot specific) and ISA compatible I/O addressing.
The ISA mode should only be used for software compatibility
with ISA drivers.
CodeNet-8300/8302 EISA adapter provides a high performance, fiber optic link to an Ethernet network segment, based
upon the IEEE 10BASE FP standard for Passive Fiber Optic
Ethernet. It is completely immune to electromagnetic noise and
no form of cable damage, like short circuits, ground faults,
reflections, or impedance mismatches, can disable the network. Fiber optic networks provide unparalleled security Workstations can be up to 1000 meters apart using a low cost and
"fool proof" CodeStar passive hub in the center of the passive
segment,
CodeNet fiber optic Ethernet networks can be added to, and
combined with existing 10BASE-T and coaxial network sections, allowing new network segments to be added as fiber
networks for performance, reliability and return on investment.

Features
Connects an EISA computer to a Code Net Ethernet
network.
Bus Master with 32 bit wide data path.
Uses the 33 MB EISA bus transfer rate for maximum
throughput.
Software support for popular network software systems including: Novell NetWare 386, Microsoft LAN Manager
(NDIS), Windows for Workgroup, Windows NT, Novell's
UnixWare, Solaris 86, IBM's OS/2, SCO and Banyan Vines.
Two computers can be up to 1 kilometer (.6 miles) apart,
500 meters from the workstation to the passive hub.
Switch selectable "Jabber" function protects system
from unnecessary downtime.
Fiber Break function detects fiber breakage and enhances
data integrity, when used with CodeStar passive hubs.
Can be used as a light source for measurements of transmitter power and for testing cable links.
Multiple LED indicators for network trouble shooting.
Operates in all computers using the EISA bus.
Ethernet and fiber optic interfaces in one EISA Board.
Simple installation by user in any single card slot.
Linked-list buffer management maximizes flexible memory management and provides efficient data packet
processing in system memory by eliminating the need
for intermediate copying of packets.
The direct placement of data into system memory increases throughput while reducing CPU bus bandwidth
utilization. In fact, the high-speed interruptible DMA design of the CodeNet-8300/8302 typically consumes less
than 5% of the CPU bus bandwidth.
Optimizes network performance of 386 and 486 based
computers. |
